The ALICE Research Group is a company working to develop high end custom hardware and software solutions to homes or businesses, with a particular focus on systems with a high degree of automation. ALICE is a project that was started in 2010 aimed at bringing the ability of any home to have total control over its self. ALICE is a program designed to aid one or more persons in everyday life. This is anything from controlling all lights and power outlets in a home, to reminding you to get milk on your way home once you've left work, but before the store. The goal of ALICE is to have the ability to monitor people through many inputs such as motion tracking, GPS coordinates and face recognition ( not just detection ). With the ability to identify people uniquely, verbally interact with them and learn what preferences they have ( what they would like to have on the TV when coming home for example ) there is no end to the list of possible things she can do. ALICE is the primary source of interest currently due to the vast range of topics and problems required for a project like this, however many components of what ALICE can do have applications that do not require the rest of ALICE. Face recognition for example was built to recognize shapes, not just faces and could be used as a standalone system. There are also other areas of interest that may one day join the larger ALICE project but for now remain standalone side projects. In general at the ALICE Research Group there is interest in building or helping to build any system with a high degree of automation and\or learning systems (AI).
We also have available for free ( licenced under GPL3 or later ) an assortment of example code and some theoretical backgrounds available for viewing and download
